Javed Hashmi becomes president PTI

Lahore: (Monday, March 19, 2012): Javed Hashmi, a senior leader Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf has been made president of the party today. It however remains to be known whether this decision prevailed after votes into the position.

Hashmi, in a press conference here today, along with the party chief Imran Khan, said that his party members will continue to work together against corruption and for strengthening the democracy.

After assuming a significant position in the party, Hashmi will now have a greater say in the decisions related to awarding party tickets to members.

Hashmi, a renowned and widely respected politician among all parties, joined Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf in December last year. Upon joining PTI, the former PML-N member said that his decision was not emotional nor for power, and
it was taken only after making sure that Imran was not being supported by the establishment.

During the press conference, Hashmi also welcomed the Pakistan Democratic Party (PDP) which has recently joined the PTI.

According to the sources, Hashmi played a significant role in convincing the PDP chief Nawabzada Mansoor to emerge his party with PTI.
