Australia collapse on the second day of the tour match
Wednesday, April 4th, 2012 1:58:49 by Taha HabibThe Australians failed to cope up with the attacking bowling of the West Indies Cricket Board President’s XI as they declared their innings at 214/9 after the home team were all out for 201 in their first innings,
Only Peter Forrest and Michael Clarke showed some resistance in the Aussie innings with Forrest staying unbeaten for 53 while Clarke made 30. The other players failed to trouble the scores too much as the tail faltered badly on a dead looking track. Ryan
Austin and Nkrumah Bonner picked up three wickets each.
After gaining a lead of 13 runs over the hosts, West Indians themselves failed to offer resistance and kept on losing wickets at regular intervals. Only wicket keeper, Carlton Baugh showed some fight and remained not-out for 27 as the whole side tumbled
for 98 in the second innings. Ben Hilfenhaus conceded just eight runs in his seven overs to pick up four wickets while Nathan Lyon also picked up 4/17. James Pattinson and Peter Siddle picked up a wicket each.
Needing 86 runs to win, the visitors made a solid start and were 30/0 at the close. Shane Watson and Ed Cowan will resume the last day’s play with Australians needing 56 more to win. The first test between West Indies and Australia will start on Saturday,
April 7.
