Freddie Roach thinks Amir Khan will be too much for Lamont Peterson in rematch

Amir Khan’s trainer, Freddie Roach, who is one of the most well-known boxing trainers in the world, is pretty confident about his fighter because he thinks he will fight in a much smarter way against Lamont Peterson in their rematch.

“I think Amir will be too much for him in this fight, and I really look forward to this rematch,” Roach said in an interview with Boxing Scene.

Khan lost his WBA and IBF light welterweight titles to Peterson when they fought last year in December at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington D.C. It was a much-anticipated fight but unfortunately it ended up in a storm of controversy when the judges awarded Peterson with a split decision.

However, while discussing their strategy revealed that they are focusing not fight in the centre of the ring this time, as he thinks it allows your opponent to throw a lot of body punches.

“We’re going to be boxing a lot smarter in the center of the ring,” Roach said.

“I have a good strategy worked out for Amir, and if we follow it, I think we’ll be good,” he said.

“The biggest thing is to keep the fight in the middle of the ring and not lay on the ropes. If he lays on the ropes, Peterson can bang on the body really hard and then he can come out on top,” Roach added.

“Laying on the ropes, that might work in the amateurs, but it doesn’t work in professional boxing.”

The Bolton’s finest, who holds a record of winning 26 of his 28 professional fights, including 18 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout, will now meet Peterson at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The 25-year-old, who is more commonly known as King Khan, had plans to move up to the 147lbs division but his dreams were quashed by Peterson. Therefore, Khan will have to win this fight or otherwise his image will get damaged badly.
