Kings XI Punjab suffered their fourth defeat of the season as they were trounced at home by the Royal Challengers Bangalore by five wickets. Chris Gayle scored a rapid fire 87 to continue his good form and propel Bangalore to the seventh place on the table.

Winning the toss and chosing to field first, Punjab managed to score 163/6 in their allotted 20 overs. David Hussey’s 41 and Azhar Mahmood’s rapid 33 took the home side to a competitive total. Shaun Marsh’s 26 and Mandeep Singh 20 also proved to be vital
contributions.

Zaheer Khan and Andrew McDonald picked up two wickets each while Vinay Kumar and Harshal Patel picked up a wicket each. In reply, RCB made a poor start to their chase as they were reduced to 25/3 before Gayle and AB de Villiers formed a 131-run stand for
the fourth wicket.

Gayle’s 87 of 56 balls included 8 fours and 4 sixes while de Villiers 52 of 39 balls included 6 fours. The visiting side chased their target with three balls to spare losing five wickets during the process. Parvinder Awana, who was playing his first game
