Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) decided to clear the stigma of friendly opposition, saying Thursday’s Supreme Court ruling against Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani is straightforward and he is no more premier of the country.

PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif said that all orders by the prime minister after April 26 (the day he was convicted by the apex court) were effectively illegal and unconstitutional. He asked the Prime Minister to step down from illegal post, warning him against unwanted consequences otherwise.

While addressing a hurriedly called news conference in Lahore, he observed, “The court’s decision is simple and Gilani is neither the premier, nor an MNA”.  He referred to Gilani as the former prime minister, saying his continuation of office is illegal, unconstitutional and unethical.

In his view, it was not a political case which has led to Gilani’s disqualification but a decision of the court to bring back money from Swiss banks, the money of the Pakistani people, he asserted.

Nawaz Sharif called the prime minister a usurper, saying that the PML-N will record its protest in all forms and at all levels and the possibility of a long march could not be ruled out either, if needed.

He was of the opinion the time has come for change and he would move against the government in order safeguard the judiciary.

He believed that Gilani would not have accepted the court’s ruling, if the court had convicted him and bound him to go directly to Multan instead of the Prime Minister House and the National Assembly (NA).

The PML-N chief, however, said that they would foil all efforts of the government intends to degrade the courts and superior judiciary. He vowed that the PML-N will fight against the incumbent in and outside the parliament.

Opposition Leader in the National Assembly, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, while speaking on the occasion said the NA Speaker violated the norms, allowing Prime Minister Gilani to deliver a speech during the question hour.

He stressed that the PML-N will not allow a stranger like Gilani to enter the house, or address it, in the coming session.
