Prince Harry named for Humanitarian award – International News

Prince Harry of England has been recently named for the 2012 Humanitarian Award, which brings him at the ranks of U2 front-man Bono and former US President Bill Clinton.

The Atlantic Council, which is an international affairs think tank in Washington, D.C., organised the annucal awards dinner on Monday, while Harry also attended the gathering. He received the 2012 Distinguished Humanitarian Leadership Award from the Atlantic
Council. 27-year old Harry settled for the honour on account of his exceptional work with military veterans, servicemen and women that he does through the Foundation of Prince William and Prince Harry.

General Colin Powell presented the award to Harry and referred to his military title, Captain Harry Wales. Powell also talked about Harry’s ability to bring a more youthful, female crowd to the usually staid dinner. "For that, we really, really thank you,"
Powell joked.

Powell further added, "Prince Harry has wholeheartedly continued the royal tradition of advocating on behalf of society’s less-fortunate members. Through his efforts, he restores confidence to those who have been wounded in service to his country."

Meanwhile, Harry shared his thoughts after receiving the award. He expressed his sentiments in the following manner: "Generally, I obviously don’t feel that I’ve done nearly enough to deserve [this award], before speaking of his work with wounded veterans.
"The very least we owe them is to make sure that they and their brave families have everything they need through the darkest days – and, in time, regain the hope and confidence to flourish again."

It was Prince Harry’s first visit to Washington D.C. and it turned out to be a great success.
