Dana Vollmer and Park Tae Hwan dominate swimming events – Santa Clara International Grand Prix

Dana Vollmer and Park Tae Hwan dominated gold medals of the Women and Men’s 100m freestyle respectively on first day of the 2012 Santa Clara International Grand Prix.

With her alluring efforts and commendable start, Vollmer managed to gain a marginal edge over her opponents and cruised her way towards the finishing blockade with the timing of 54.38 seconds.

The champion was trailed by her teammate, Natalie A Coughlin, who stayed 0.39 seconds apart and touched the finishing end for silver medal with the timing of 54.77 seconds.

The second position holder was trailed by Madison J Kennedy, who remained nearly half body length behind and tapped the finishing wall for bronze medal with the timing of 55.39 seconds.

Next was the equivalent event in Men’s category, where Park Tae Hwan showed no mercy to his opponents and captured gold medal of the event with an effort of 48.85 seconds.

The gold medallist was followed by Anthony L Ervin, who stayed 1.10 seconds apart wand secured silver medal of the discipline with the timing of 49.95 seconds.

The second position holder was trailed by Aaron M Wayne, who stayed 0.09 seconds apart and settled on the finishing end as third position holder with the timing of 50.04 seconds.

Next was the Women’s 200m breaststroke playoff, where Caitlin Leverenz ensured her place on the top of victory stand for gold medal with the timing of 2 minutes and 26.46 seconds.

The champion was followed by Katlin N Freeman, who stayed one and a half body length behind and reached the podium for silver medal by reporting a time of 2 minutes and 27.83 seconds.

Similarly, third position of the discipline was obtained by Sarra Lajnef, who stayed two body lengths apart and proved her mettle for bronze medal of the discipline with the timing of 2 minutes and 30.09 seconds.

Furthermore, the position holders received awards and accolades for their notable efforts at the prize distribution ceremony of the championship after the session.
