Two more die as the loadshedding protests linger on in Punjab

Lahore: (Tuesday, June 19, 2012) Protests against the unending loadshedding continued across Punjab even today where the demonstrators turned violent and did not hesitate to attack the houses and assets of MNAs and MPAs. The fresh
riots also claimed two more lives today.

According to details, the angry protestors thronged and attacked the house of Pakistan Muslim League (PML-Q) MNA Riaz Fatiana in Kamalia, as a result, his guards opened fire on the mob that culminated in killing two and rendering
other eight injured.

The traders and citizens in Kamalia blocked the Kamalia-Faisalabad road and suspended the traffic while the city observed a complete shutter down against the power outages. The angry crowd also damaged several shops near general
bus stop.

House of a PPP MNA Begum Husnain also came under attack by the angry protesting crowd due to which the security staff opened fire on them. The clashes rendered over 15 people injured. Later, the infuriated mob also set three police
mobiles and a DSP’s vehicle on fire.

Protests also took place in Multan where the protestors forced the traders to close down their shops and blocked the Qadirpur and Multan roads. Police, at the occasion, baton charged the crowd.

Khanewal also observed a complete shutter down strike after a protestor was killed by the private guards of the Advisor to the Prime Minister Ahmed Yar Hiraj and Chairman of Earthquake Reconstruction & Rehabilitation Authority
(ERRA) MNA Hamid Yar Hiraj of the Pakistan Muslim League-Q, opened direct fire on the protestors from the rooftop of their residence, situated in the Civil Lines, Khanewal.

After the sad incident, the situation in the city turned very tense, and people, including traders and students staged demonstrations against the killings.

People also continued to record their protests in other areas of Punjab including Dera Ghazi Khan, Chiniot, Bahawalpur and Vehari.
