High profile al Qaeda leader arrested at Pak-Iran border: Officials

Islamabad: (Wednesday, June 20, 2012) Pakistan intelligence agencies have captured a high profile al Qaeda leader, Naamen Meziche, while conducting an operation near the Pakistan Iran border, disclosed the intelligence officials.

According to the reports, Meziche is said to have links with al Qaeda operatives based in Europe, and according to some media sources, he was also involved in the 9/11 attacks.

The French national of Algerian origin worked closely with another al Qaeda leader, Younis al Mauritani, who was responsible for international operations, officials said.

Mauritani was arrested by authorities in September last year.
