Saif Ali Khan: I would never want her (Kareena) to change her religion!

Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor are the talk of the town at this point in time and the main reason behind is their much-anticipated marriage. Both stars will tie the knot in on October 16 at Khan’s Pataudi Palace in Pataudi village.

Even thought Kareena, who is considered as the ultimate diva of Bollywood industry, is eager to marry Saif, she plans to retain her identity and will not convert to Islam for her marriage with the Nawab of Pataudi.

Saif’s parents, actress Sharmila Tagore and late cricketer Mansoor Ali Khan had a traditional ‘nikaah’ ceremony between them and Saif’s mother changed her name to Ayesha Begum before marrying.

There was a similar story in Saif’s first wedding to actress Amrita Singh in 1991. Singh also converted to Islam and adopted a Muslim name. Nevertheless, this time the actor has said that he is not going to force her wife-to-be to convert her religion for him.

“I would never want her (Kareena) to change her religion. That is the trouble with religion really… it expects conversion. I don’t buy or believe that. I think it’s good that the government, too, has â unless I’m misinformed about the lawamended to include it in the Special Marriage Act. If and when we do get married, no one has to change his or her religion,” Saif Ali Khan said in an interview recently.

Saif-Kareena wedding is one of the most-awaited weddings in the industry and the preparations for their ‘Big Day’ have already started.

“Madam (Sharmila) is currently in London and the main preparations will start once she returns on July 20. The marriage ceremony will take place at Pataudi Palace and it will be bustling with guests. We are not yet aware whether they will go for a ‘nikaah’ or a Hindu marriage,” a source said.

Pataudi Palace is now managed by Neemrana Hotels but still some of the portions belong to the Pataudi family.

Well, all said and done, let’s see hope everything goes fine between Saif and Kareena’s wedding.
