Sindh government provides fund to PBSA for 2012 World Under-21 Snooker Championship

Pakistani potters will now participate in the upcoming 2012 World Under-21 Snooker Championship because the Sindh government has provided funds to the national snooker governing body, Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Association (PBSA) so that the board can send the national cueists to participate in the tournament that will be played at Wuxi, China.

Recently in his visit to the Karachi Gymkhana Club, the provincial minister for Youth Affairs, Faisal Sabzwari gave a cheque of Rs246,500 to the PBSA President, Alamgir Anwar Shaikh for the purpose. The funds are less than the required amount, Rs493,000, for the two cueists that the association asked. The minister explained that they could afford only half of the amount because of budget constraints.

He spoke to the media, “We have decided to sponsor the two teenaged cueists, Hunain Aamir and Mohammad Majid, for the sake of the country’s representation at a global event which will promote Pakistan’s soft image abroad. Our department was always willing to go the extra mile for creating opportunities for youth as we have just demonstrated by sponsoring two young cueists from Punjab.”

Alamgir, on the other hand, added, “Both of them are exceptionally talented cueists. They are being trained by Mohammad Yousuf, a former world champion, in Islamabad. We are confident that they will bring laurels for the country.”

The association has appointed the former International Billiards and Snooker Federation (IBSF) World Snooker Champion, veteran Mohammad Yousuf as the new coach and trainer for Hunain Aamir and Mohammad Majid so that the potters can get proper training for the mega event.
