Amir Khan admits Danny Garcia is tough to go through

Former IBF and WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan believes his upcoming opponent WBC light welterweight champion will put up a tough fight.

This time Khan, who usually underestimates his opponents, finds himself preparing hard for an unbeaten fighter who is known for ending legendary careers.

In a recent interview, the Bolton proud spoke about his career and his upcoming fight. Khan also shed light over the entire Lamont Peterson drug test issue. Surprisingly, Khan revealed that he was going ahead to fight Peterson, even when the American failed the drug test.

Khan iterated, “I still think about what happened, and I would have preferred to have had the chance to settle the score properly and fight him even when he got caught by testing positive.”

The British-Pakistani pugilist added, “I thought there was still a chance of fighting him and my team were advising me not to because it wouldn’t have been fair. What got to me a little bit was not having my chance to win the titles back and put things straight.”

When asked about his preparation for July 14 when he goes head to head against Garcia, Khan revealed, “This is a tough fight and I need to keep focused because when you look too far ahead you can make mistakes. I need to be very professional but in the future there are some super-fights out there for me.”

Amir Khan will take on Garcia at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. It will be a title unification bout, with Garcia’s WBC light welterweight title and the vacant WBA light welterweight title.

It should be noted here that the vacant WBA title was put on the line last week, when Richard Schaefer, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions, revealed that Lamont Peterson has been stripped off the title. Furthermore, he said that since the title is vacant, it will be on the line when Khan takes on Garcia.
