Jacques Kallis rested for England ODIs

Cricket South Africa has excluded Jacques Kallis from the squad for the One Day International (ODI) series against England in order to give him some rest before the upcoming Twenty20 World Cup.

The 36-year-old has played in 321 matches, scoring over-11000 runs at a brilliant average of 45.26. The big man is in sublime form these days, as he recently slammed a wonderful century in the opening Test against England.

South Africa are scheduled to play five-match ODI series against the Englishmen in August-September. To avoid any injury due to fatigue factor, the national selectors have decided to let Kallis have some rest before the mega event, scheduled to take place
in Sri Lanka later this year.

The veteran all-rounder will be replaced by new cap, Dean Elgar. The young man has an impressive track record at the domestic level, scoring over-2500 runs at an average of almost 40. He has also scalped 29 wickets at the local level.

Pakistan-born Imran Tahir has been included in the limited-over setup. The leg-spinner played his last ODI in the World Cup last year. The selectors also brought Ryan Mclaren in order to strengthen the bowling attack.

"Dean has been in our plans for some time and might well have made his debut last year but for injury," Andrew Hudson, CSA’s selection convener, said in a statement on the governing body’s website (www.cricket.co.za).

"Imran is a genuine wicket-taking bowler and his selection enables us to explore our options in this area. Ryan has just come off some exceptional form for the South Africa A side and the added depth he provides in the seam bowling department will allow
us to rotate players if we feel the need arises."

The opening encounter will be played at Cardiff on August 24th. After playing five ODIs, the two sides will meet in a three-match T20 series. The team for the T20 clash will be announced next month.

South Africa ODI squad: AB de Villiers (captain), Hashim Amla, JP Duminy, Francois du Plessis, Dean Elgar, Imran Tahir, Ryan McLaren, Albie Morkel, Morne Morkel, Justin Ontong, Wayne Parnell, Robin Peterson, Graeme Smith, Dale Steyn, Lonwabo
Tsotsobe.
