Anti-Narcotics Force registers FIR against PML-N’s Hanif Abbasi

In what appeared to be a quite dramatic move, Anti-Narcotics Force on Monday registered an FIR against Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) MNA Hanif Abbasi for illegally acquiring 500 kilograms of ephedrine.

Abbasi’s pharmaceutical company had procured half a tonne chemical surpassing the legal quota limits leaps and bounds, media reported. The FIR No 41/12 was lodged at the ANF Police Station against Abbasi and the officials of Gray’s Pharmaceutical Company.

According to the media reports, the authorities concerned recommended registration of criminal case against PML-N MNA after a thorough inquiry into the way the chemical was allocated and used afterwards by the manufacturers.

In a counter move, MNA Hanif Abbasi appeared on various private TV channels and termed the FIR as political victimization by his opponents and that he did not misuse the chemical rather used for manufacturing De Asm 30mg tablets.

Hanif Abbasi while commenting over the situation said that this action was obviously a political stunt to victimize him. Claiming that he had acquired legal quota, he said that the narcotic force was framing him in the case.

Earlier on July 23, Hanif Abbasi approached the LHC Rawalpindi Bench, suing the ANF officials for launching a baseless inquiry against him and harassing the Gray’s Pharma employees.

LHC Justice Malik Shehzad Ahmed Khan and Justice Ibadur Rehman Lodhi directed the ANF to submit its report against the MNA before the court until next week. Nevertheless, the bench did not stop the ANF investigators from investigating the pharmaceutical companies owned by Hanif Abbasi and his family members.

The MNA in his petition prayed the court to direct the ANF probing team not to harass him and his employees, while initiating inquiry.

It is vital to mention here that Ali Musa Gilani, the son of former prime minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, was accused of acquiring illegal chemical quota.

Interestingly it was the same scandal, which prevented Makhdum Shahabuddin from vying for the seat of prime minister of the country.

The ANF issued arrest warrants for him before he could even submit nomination papers in the elections.
