Quetta: (Saturday, August 11, 2012) Protesting against abduction of Dr Ghulam Rasool, doctors’ strike in Balochistan has entered into 11th consecutive day. The government and law enforcement agencies seem oblivious of
the presence of the issue that has started to affect the local patients seriously and are yet to take serious measures that may assure Dr Ghulam Rasool’s release.

The call for present strike was given by the Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) Balochistan Chapter and other medical organizations in the province against the kidnapping of their fellow senior doctor of Bolan Medical Complex (BMC).

It was back on Wednesday, August 1 when unknown armed men abducted psychiatrist Dr Ghulam Rasool of BMC hospital from Brewery Road. The incident took place only two days after release of the senior surgeon of the same college Dr
Din Mohammad Bangulzai.

Dr Rasool was kidnapped when he was on way to his home after performing routine duty at BMC.

Along with doctors, the paramedical staff is also on strike and is boycotting their duties due to which patients, particularly those coming from far-flung areas are facing severe difficulties. According to the sources, the patients
are suffering mostly because of the closure of the OPDs.

However, doctors are paramedics remained present at casualty and emergency wards to attend to patients.

After the protests, the Balochistan government has formed a committee for the recovery of Dr Ghulam Rasool, but no advancement has been reported as yet. The doctors in the province, however, have expressed the resolve to continue
their protests and strike unless Dr Ghulam Rasool returns home safely.
