Olympic Games 2012: Sayaka Sato digs deep to outplay Susan Egelstaff in Group H contest

Japan’s experienced player Sayaka Sato worked really hard to overpower Susan Egelstaff of Great Britain in Women’s Singles Group H contest at the Olympic Games 2012 on July 31, at Wembley Arena, in London.

The in-form Sayaka, who is currently placed at number 15 in Women’s Singles world ranking, had to work extra hard to get rid of her aggressive opponent and she managed to win the math in three sets.

The higher ranked Japanese shuttler could not show her brilliance in opening set but she played remarkable badminton in the following games and eventually took the match in rubber sets with a decent score on the board.

In the meanwhile, the lower ranked Egelstaff proved to be a tough nut to crack in the opening set but she could not maintain her tremendous play in the following both games and knelt down to Sayaka with a respectable margin.

Both players showed a wonderful performance in first game as they played attacking and positive badminton and remained close on score board until the one-minute break.

After the mid-game interval, the Japanese shuttler played different badminton aiming to dominate the pace of rallies but failed to shake the flow of her rival and lost the first game with an 18-21 score on the board.

The in-form Sayaka showed her brilliance by playing better badminton in the second game as she did not let Egelstaff to play dominating badminton this time but also could not manage a comfortable lead until the end of opening half.

The spirited Sayaka continued playing positive badminton in the second half and remained successful in taking it with a comfortable score of 21-16.

The deciding game was quite favourable for Sayaka as she played dominating badminton and dictated Egelstaff in all corners of the court. She was in commanding position throughout the set and ended it up with a stunning 21-12 score on the board.

The in-form Sayaka managed to overpower Egelstaff in hard-fought three games with a decent margin of 18-21, 21-16 and 21-12.
