Lashing out at the Pakistan Muslim League–Nawaz (PML-N), Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Qamar Zaman Kaira has said that it was creating hurdles in the creation of new federating units in the country.

He claimed that the PML-N, which is the second largest party in the parliament, was not looked serious in creation of new provinces in Punjab. The party is using delaying tactics to disturb the development, he added.

He observed, “The commission for the formation of new provinces in Punjab was formed in light of the PML-N’s approved resolutions in Punjab Assembly and now PML-N and Punjab government were back tracking from that resolution because they are not serious in creating new provinces”.

Kaira said that it was stressed in Punjab Assembly’s resolution that the federal government should immediately form a national commission for the creation of new federating units.

He claimed that the Opposition Leader in Senate Ishaq Dar earlier nominated Malik Muhammad Rafiq Rajwana for the commission but later the party withdrew his nam from the commission’s membership

Moreover, he said that Punjab Assembly on May 09 approved two separate resolutions regarding revival of Bahawalpur province and creation of new province called South Punjab.

It is vital to mention here that the resolutions were moved by the PML-N, the ruling party of the province.

The minister noted, “The Commission was constituted in pursuance of the President’s May 30 message to the Speaker National Assembly for the formation of a new commission and the commission was formed by the Speaker”.

Kaira continued that the incumbent formed the commission in light of the resolutions passed by the Punjab Assembly rather by its own.

It followed the resolutions of Punjab Assembly while no other province passed any resolution in this regard.

“If any other provincial assembly approved a resolution regarding the creation of a new province, the same commission would decide about it”, he asserted.

The minister stated the provincial assembly had demanded that the commission should look into the issues relating to fair distribution of economic and financial resources, geographical segregation and allotment of seats in the parliament.
