Islamabad: The members of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) here today expressed disappointment and annoyance over the absence of Secretary Interior Khawaja Siddique Akbar. Amid Akbar’s absence, the PAC could not deliberate over
his audit objections. The sources at the PAC say that this was deliberately done in protest of Akbar’s absence.

Presided by the PAC Chairman, Nadeem Afzal Chan, the accounts committee meeting was held for a second consecutive day today.

Sharing reasons for Siddique’s Akbar’s absence, the additional secretary told the committee members that he felt chest pain last night. This infuriated one of the members Hamid Yar Hiraj who said that the secretary is often drunk
and that is why he must have been unable to regain his senses in the morning.

Chan, the PAC chairman, while criticizing the secretary interior’s absence in the meeting, said that the next date for the meeting should be finalized after consulting with him when he would not have chest pain.

The chairman PAC further said that the meeting should be adjourned and they all should go to ask for his well being.
