David Haye wants a mega-fight with Vitali Klitschko

The current WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko successfully defended his title against Manuel Charr last Saturday with a fourth round technical knockout. He is now due one last big fight before hanging up his gloves and former WBA champion David Haye has announced himself as the obvious choice for the Ukrainian.

The Hayemaker believes he is the only one out there who can offer Vitali just the spectacle and payday with which he can walk away from the sport on a high.

“I want to convince him that he hasn’t had a defining fight yet,” Haye told Sky Sports News. “His biggest fight to date was against Lennox Lewis, which he lost.”

While speaking on his inclusion, the brash Londoner insisted that since Lewis, Vitali hasn’t fought any renowned boxer.

“Although he’s had a long string of victories, none of them have been against opponents that have brought any excitement, any entertainment. [Saturday] night was against an opponent I’d never heard of – there was no headline, no hype. For someone who wants to retire, you want to retire on a big fight.”

Haye mentioned his impressive Luxembourg Boxing Federation licensed fifth round win over his fellow countryman Dereck Chisora, who had pushed Vitali to the full distance.

Haye said his fight with Chisora at the Upton Park had an enormous hype among the fans and therefore Vitali should not ignore the box office figures which he can get by fighting him.

Haye even claimed that, other than pound-for-pound kings Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather fighting, the next biggest fight on the planet is him versus Vitali.

“My last fight against Dereck Chisora was a huge fight, a mega-fight all around the world. Potentially that could have been my last fight. If we were both to retire now, I know that I would have finished on a high. That fight against Charr last night was definitely not a high.”

Well, all said and done, Vitali Klitschko, who now holds a record of winning 45 of his 47 professional fights, with 41 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout, has not shown any in Haye as of yet but let’s see if he changes his minds and agrees to fight Haye.
