Senator Raza Rabbani on Saturday emphasized the need of consultations between the parliament and the army, adding that the final decision should be taken by the former.

Raza Rabbani, who is also chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security (PCNS), while speaking to the Youth Parliament said, “The parliament made a good initiative, army too stepped up; this beginning should not end now.”

He was of the opinion that military should be under the subordination of the parliament and the people in democracy.

He further noted, “The civil-military bureaucracy had cropped up at the very beginning since Pakistan came into being. The existing or any other governments have been in the hostage of this bureaucracy.”

The Senator continued that the existing judiciary was the first ever in the country which didn’t approved the actions of the dictators.

In his view, the military has a role in the national security but those raiding in night shouldn’t be baked at all.

The outspoken politician said that the PCNS should not have been made, as this was the idea of a military dictator.

In his view, the Defense Committee of the Cabinet (DCC) should be strengthened. He said our country could not survive without the federation.

Commenting on the Ishq-e-Rasool Day, Raza Rabbani said that the violent incidents on the eve actually hurt the noble cause of the protest at national level. He also declared the youth of the country as the torch bearers of culture of tolerance and peace.

Earlier, the Senator expressed feared that many forces in political parties and civil bureaucracy want to roll back the unanimously-passed 18th Constitutional Amendment but in the presence of masses and political parties no can even think to change a single word of this amendment.

He noted, “The 18th Amendment would strengthen the federation and its units and only people’s representative have the authority to bring any amendment in the constitution.”

The parliamentarian was of the opinion that gap between the federation and its units would be bridged with the implementation of the 18th Amendment and that the credit of promulgating 1973 constitution goes to Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.

While appreciating the wisdom of all political parties, Raza Rabbani said the passage of 18th, 19th and 20th amendments would not have been possible without their support.
