Katinka Hosszu and Darian Townsend win gold medals – FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup

Katinka Hosszu and Darian Townsend won gold medals of the Women’s 400m freestyle and Men’s 200m Individual Medley (IM) respectively at the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Stockholm, Sweden.

Hosszu enjoyed a two-body length lead over her closest swimmer and sprinted her way towards the wall for the crown with an effort of 4 minutes and 03.83 seconds.

Her gold finish remained 1.54 seconds ahead of Melissa Ingram of New Zealand, who followed her on the victory stand for silver medal with an effort of 4 minutes and 05.37 seconds.

Ingram was followed by Lotte Friis, who stayed half a body length behind and surfaced on the wall with an effort of 4 minutes and 05.86 seconds for bronze medal.

The third position holder was traced by Manuella Lyrio, who remained 0.71 seconds behind and settled on the wall as fourth best finisher by submitting an effort of 4 minutes and 06.57 seconds.

Lyrio was trailed by Zsuzsanna Jakabos, who stayed three body lengths behind and touched the wall for fifth position by submitting an effort of 4 minutes and 09.31 seconds.

Afterwards, Townsend captured gold medal of the Men’s 200m IM. He remained only a touch ahead of his strongest challenger and occupied gold medal of the event by producing a time of 1 minute and 53.66 seconds.

The champion was traced by Laszlo Cseh, who was only 0.02 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and surfaced on the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 53.68 seconds.

The second position holder was followed by Henrique Rodrigues, who was one and a half body length slower from overpowering his former finisher and touched the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 55.15 seconds.

Fourth fastest spot of the event was obtained by Simon Sjodin, who was almost two body lengths slower from his preceding swimmer and touched the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 56.91 seconds.

In addition, the position holders received medals and accolades for their notable efforts at the prize ceremony of the tournament.
