2013 Canadian National Championships: Michelle Li confounds Stephanie Pakenham in semi-final round

Women’s Singles shuttler Michelle Li kept on playing impressive badminton in the semi-final round of Yonex Canadian National Championships and gained access to the final round on February 1, 2013.

She locked horns with Stephanie Pakenham in a match that lasted for 29 minutes before ending with 21-14 and 21-19.

With this impressive straight-set victory, she setup a title match with another compatriot player Christin Tsai.

In the second last round of the tournament, Michelle Li employed all of her valuable experience in the game and cast out her lower ranked rival.

She laid foundation of her dominance in the beginning of first set and enjoyed an upper hand all the way to concluding moments.

Michelle ruled the court in the establishing rallies and gained an early advantage in no time. She capitalised this early lead and piled a significant figure of 11 before the interval.

After the mid-game break, she lost focus for a short span of time which allowed Stephanie to narrow the gap on points table.

Both native shuttlers remained equal in next couple of rallies but then Michelle struck hard and tipped the scale in her favour.

She started the beating in third quarter of the set and strengthened her grip over game. She did not make even a single mistake and wrapped this segment of the showdown with 21-14 score.

The following set was not a dead contest as both contenders challenged each other in all departments of the game and made the crowd gasp.

They snapped at each other’s heels and stayed close until the last shot was played. The best part of the game was when they were almost equal in the final moments.

However, Michelle registered an overwhelming score of 21-19 and moved into final round of the tournament.
