Arsene Wenger expects to see a tight clash for a spot in the top four – Football News

Arsenal boss, Arsene Wenger, is hoping to see a tough battle for a spot in the top four at the Barclays English Premier League. The Gunners squeaked past Aston Villa this Saturday to lower the gap between fourth placed Tottenham Hotspurs.

The Spanish playmaker, Santi Cazorla, hit a brace to let Arsenal secure a 2-1 victory against the Lions. He hit the opener just six minutes from the start of the match. In the second half the Villans scored the equaliser but Cazorla hit another goal five minutes to stoppage time and stole the show.

The Frenchman was quoted in an interview to the Arsenal Player:

“I’m not sure the other places are not reachable. Chelsea are only two points ahead and go to Man City. I’m not sure it will only be a fight with Tottenham. It could be a tight fight until the end. We are ready for that. We are ready to fight for the football we love to play. You could see that against Aston Villa. We continued to play until the last second of the game and we will continue to do that until the end of the season.”

Wenger is delighted that his side has shown progress after the recent bad patch. They are conceding less goals and creating more chances now. He reflected:

“Recently in the Premier League we have not conceded too many. But I think we have to improve a little bit the number of goals we are scoring because in recent games we created a lot of chances but didn’t take advantage. Right now, confidence is our best friend and a lack of confidence is our worst enemy”

Arsenal will next take on Tottenham Hotspurs on 3^rd March.
