Oakland Athletics pick Brett Anderson Opening Day Starter

Oakland Athletics have announced that their Opening Day Starter will be left hander Brett Anderson. The 25-year-old Anderson is extremely talented and showing great commitment currently in the Spring Trainings.

“I’m not going to jump up and down or anything like that, but it’s an honor, and you take pride in that, slap yourself on the back, but then go out there and prepare yourself for that day,” Anderson said.

He added, “Being a competitive person, you want to be the guy they can go to to win a ballgame, give them a chance to win and pitch against the best in the league. Just for them to have the confidence in you to go out and perform in those situations is big.”

Anderson was also exceptional in the last Major League outing when he achieved 2.57 ERA along with 4-2 win-loss, 26 strikeouts, 1.03 WHIP.

The Athletics manager Bob Melvin is also pleased that the top management feels Brett Anderson worthy enough to pick him Opening Day Starter. “Let’s go ahead and say Brett Anderson is our Opening Day starter,” Melvin said, smiling.

“Based on the guys that we have and how successfully he came back for us last year, we really feel like he’s the man to lead the staff,” Melvin said. ”He worked hard to get back and put himself in a position to compete with us at a time of the season where there’s no easing into things.”

He added, “You got to be good right away, and he was. Then he gets hurt (oblique) and we think he’s done, and he works just as hard to get back and pitch in a playoff game.”

Not only Anderson played well in the last MLB outing but he has been quite terrific on the mound for the Athletics since he made his way into the big league.

Currently he is carrying career consistent ERA of 3.57 along with 25-25 win-loss, 311 total strikeouts and 1.25 WHIP.
