Stephen Strasburg officially named Washington Nationals Opening Day Starter

The Washington Nationals have named Stephen Strasburg their Opening Day Starter for coming Major League Baseball season.

“I guess you want me to say it,” the 70-year-old Nationals manager Davy Johnson said. “He’s going to be my Opening Day starter. You drug it out of me.” He added, “That’s a great honor, There’s a lot of great starters in my rotation.”

Strasburg is a talented player and possesses large MLB experience. He did very well in the last outing where he achieved consistent ERA of 3.16 along with 15-6 win loss, 197 strikeouts and 1.15 WHIP.

Not only in the last particular season, but Strasburg also possesses career good numbers of 2.94 ERA along with 21-10 win loss, 313 strikeouts and 1.09 WHIP.

Later Johnson also said for his other pitchers, “No, there’s enough time to set that up, It shouldn’t affect us. [The WBC] is going be over the 19th, so that gives us about two weeks. We should be able to work that out.”

He added, “Anytime you get to pitch on an international level like this one, which has grown into a great event, it’s a great experience, Number one, there’s a lot of pressure just representing your country. And then double that, he was pitching in his hometown. I think any experience like this is great.”

The Nationals manager also believes that Strasburg will not be alone this time to show the offensive plays against all key hitters but Gonzalez, Zimmermann, Ross Detwiler and Haren are also there to support him in the roster.

According to few experts the Nationals starting lineup is pretty strong this time around and they will give tough time to their division opponents.

Last season, the Nationals did well in batting department but this year, they are certainly roaring to achieve their goals with consistent pace on the mound.
