Major League Baseball Update/ News

The St. Louis Cardinals ace starter Chris Carpenter has no more aspirations to pitch again in the Majors especially for the team he played almost eight years. He recently spoke to reporters and had a very long answers questions session.

“I do (want to keep playing),” Carpenter said. “I don’t think I can. There has been no change, there is some everyday stuff that is going on that is affecting me a little bit.”

He added, “Right now I’m just enjoying my time with my family. … I was planning on playing, on being a part of this team and make the choice at the end of the year whether I wanted to keep playing or not. Unfortunately it didn’t work out that way.”

He further said, “I knew at some point it would come to an end, I hoped to make the choice myself.”

The 2013 Major League Baseball season was final on Carpenter’s current contract with the Cardinals but it seems that 15-year MLB veteran has decided about his future and wants to retire from the game.

On the whole, the star pitcher is not recovering from his last season’s shoulder injury. He even played a break-out 2012 season and not achieved consistent numbers. He finished the season achieving 3.71 ERA along with 0-2 win loss, 12 strikeouts and 1.12 WHIP.

Despite last season’s relatively poor outing, Carpenter is considered one of the best offensive starters of all time. His career stats are very consistent at 3.76 ERA along with 144-94 win loss, 1697 strikeouts and 1.28 WHIP.

Starting his career from the Toronto Blue Jays platform, he joined the St. Louis Cardinals in 2004 and since then playing with them.

With the Cardinals, he was selected Major League All-Star for three times and became World Series Champions for two-time. Along with these prestigious honors, Carpenter has also won National League Cy Young award, NL Comeback Player of the Year award and NL ERA award.

His illustrious Major League career and especially the time he spent with the Cardinals will always remembered as a great legacy of his own true class.
