Five people, including two women and a child, were killed when security forces raided a house near Quetta early Thursday, officials said.

They said nearly 16 security men were also injured when the inmates returned fire and used rockets and hand grenades, deputy inspector general police, Mohammad Mobeen said.

He said the suspects blew themselves up to avoid arrest.

Paramilitary troops and police raided the house at 3 a.m., on a tip that suspects are hiding in the compound at Kharotabad in the outskirts of Quetta, the capital of Balochistan province, he told reporters.

The clashes continued for three hours and both sides used heavy weapons. Two suspects blew themselves up and when the forces entered the house they found bodies of two women and a child.

The officials have not identified the slain persons.

There was no independent confirmation of the claim by security officials.
