Committee on Dr Aafia Siddiqui formed

Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has formed a committee on Dr. Aafia Siddiqui’s case which will present its recommendations to the Cabinet to facilitate her repatriation to Pakistan. 

Siddiqui was sentenced to 86 years in prison by a New York court in 2008 on charges of attempted murder of US soldier in Afghanistan. She denied the charges.

 

The Minister has also directed that Interior Ministry’s Task Force on Missing Persons should be formed next week for preparing a transparent policy in the light of Supreme Court’s orders in this regard.

 

It would prepare a transparent list of the actual number of missing persons after due deliberation and consultation with the security agencies and the affected families.

 

Ch. Nisar Ali Khan directed that processing of mercy petitions should be restarted as provided under the rules and all processed cases be sent to Aiwan-e-Sadr for decision.

 

  

He directed that all unauthorized staff working for retired and un-entitled police officers should immediately be withdrawn. Similarly he directed that unauthorized staff working at the offices and residences of CDA officers should be sent back to their original place of duty.

 

The Interior Minister directed that officers of the Ministry and its attached departments should ensure that all unauthorized staff working at their residences be sent back to their original place of posting.

 

 

The Minister directed for the preparation of a plan for establishing a rescue service in Islamabad on the pattern of 1122.

 

The CDA Chairman has been directed to initiate action against road contractors who are not meeting the targets or have exposed the traffic to hazards using substandard material.

He directed that the under construction portion of Kashmir highway near Golra toll plaza be metalled immediately.

 

The Minister also directed that toll collection at all toll plazas in Islamabad capital territory be successively ceased after their period of contract is over and a new system of revenue collection be evolved which is neither cumbersome nor time consuming for the residents of Islamabad.
