Unknown armed men kidnap Afghan female MP

Unidentified gunmen have kidnapped Afghan female MP Fereba Ahmadi Kakar along with her children in eastern parts of the country, Afghan media reported Monday.

Ms Kakar, member of the National Assembly or Wolasi Jirga from Kandahar, was abducted with her two daughters, two sons, bodyguard and driver on Saturday however the Afghan officials had not shared the news with the media.

She had been missing on the Kandahar-Kabul highway in an area in eastern Ghazni Province, the Afghan Islamic Press reported.

A high-ranking government official in Kandahar Province, who did not want to disclose his name, told Afghan Islamic Press news agency that unknown armed individuals called Fereba Ahmadi Kakar’s family by phone and have told them to come and take her two sons home, because they are not needed by them. I think Mrs Kakar has been abducted for personal problems”.

The official said: “A while ago, Fereba Ahmadi Kakar had wedded her daughter to someone else, but later, she forcefully returned her daughter from them and did not give her to them. Therefore, I think that Mrs Kakar may be abducted by her enemies”.

Security officials in Ghazni also confirmed, provided that their names were not published, that Mrs Fereba Ahmadi Kakar had been abducted by unknown armed individuals in some part of the province and that they had no information about her yet.

The officials said that Mrs Kakar had gone to Kandahar to mark Id al-Fitr, but she was abducted on her way back.

No one has claimed responsibility for abducting Mrs Kakar yet.
