PM for early completion of Gadani Power Project

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif Saturday said that Gadani Power Project should be given top priority in view of energy crisis in the country.  

He was chairing a meeting of Gadani Power Park steering committee in Hub today where was briefed about the project.

The prime minister said this is a very important project and there is no room for delay in the execution of this project.

The Prime Minister directed that rules and procedures should be simplified for investment in private sectors in important projects like Gadani Power Project as simplification of procedure will help timely completion of the projects.

He made it clear that no compromise should be made on quality and transparency in the development projects.

The Prime Minister said he will pay a three day visit to Turkey from 16th of next month and invite the Turkish investors to invest in the power sector.

The secretary of water and power briefed the prime minister about the 6600 megawatt Gadani Power Project. He said under this project ten coal based power plants will be established in Gadani. He said first power plant will be established by Pakistan itself while China has assured to make investment in four power plants.

The Prime Minister was briefed that the project will be completed by August 2014 and electricity generated by the plant will be added to the national grid by 2015. He was also briefed that a seven-kilometer jetty will be constructed for the supply of imported coal to the power project.

The meeting also discussed matters pertaining to financing of the project.

Finance Minister Ishaq Dar‚ Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Asif‚ Chief Minister Balochistan Dr Abdul Malik also attended the briefing.

Dr. Abdul Malik Baloch said that the Balochistan government will fully cooperate with federal government to execute Gadani Power Project in line with the vision of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
