Sartaj Aziz, Indian FM discuss options to reduce LoC tensions

Advisor on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz held a meeting with Indian External Affairs minister Salman Khursheed in the Kyrgyz city of Bishkek Friday and discussed bilateral issues‚ ways to defuse tension on Line of Control.

Both leaders met on the sidelines of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit.

They also discussed the dialogue process between the two countries.

They also discussed proposed meeting of the prime ministers of two countries in New York later this month.

Later talking to media‚ Indian Minister for External Affairs said the issue of Mumbai attacks was also discussed at the meeting.

Pakistan is an observer in the SCO and is seeking a full membership status of the Organization.

The 13th Summit of the SCO started Bishkek Friday to discuss ways and means to enhance cooperation in diverse fields among the member-nations.

Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev being Chairman of the SCO opened the Summit.

The SCO’s objectives include promoting peace and stability in the region through building stronger and more productive relationship among the member countries.

The SCO’s policies and programs are in consonance with Pakistan’s long term objectives of promoting peace and stability in the region‚ containing and eradicating the menace of terrorism from the region and working with members to build stronger and more productive relationship in the future.
