National Assembly condemns Taliban attack that killed top army officers

The National Assembly on Tuesday unanimously condemned a recent Taliban attack that killed a senior military general at a time when the government is working on a peace talk plan with the militants.  

Major Gen. Sanaullah Niazi was killed in a roadside bomb attack in northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Sunday.

Another senior officer, Lt Col. Tauseef, and a soldier were also killed in the attack in Upper Dir district after they were returning from visiting forwards posts along the Afghan border.

Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan had claimed responsibility for the attack.

Taliban had launched the attack at a time when the government was taking steps for peace talks with the militants to end the bloodshed.

The attack was widely condemned across Pakistan and by all section of the society.

The National Assembly on Tuesday passed a unanimous resolution condemning the attack on the army officers and expressing deep sympathies with the bereaved families.

“This house strongly condemns the attack on Major Gen. Sanaullah Niazi, Lt Col. Tauseef and La. Naik, Iran Satar, Soldiers Yasir and Ghaffar Bloch Regiment of Pakistan Army,” said the resolution moved by minister of state for parliamentary affairs and supported by opposition MPs.

“Expressing deep sympathies for the grieved families, this house salutes the bravery and courage of Pakistan Armed Forces and vows to back them in their efforts to protect the country.”

“This house called upon the government to recognize their sacrifices and to come out in full support of the armed forces in the fight against terrorism.”
