US drone strike kills 3 in North Waziristan tribal region

U.S. unmanned drones Monday fired missiles on a house in Pakistan’s North Waziristan tribal region and killed three people and injured another one.

Security sources said that four unmanned aircraft were flying over the area and later hit the compound in Boya area of North Waziristan, bordering Afghanistan.

There was no report about the identities of the slain men. The house was destroyed in the early morning strike, residents said.

It was the second consecutive drone attack in the same region in two days.

On Sunday US spy aircraft killed four people in North Waziristan when missiles struck a house near Miranshah, headquarters of North Waziristan, tribesmen said. 

Pakistan condemned the Sunday’s American strike and said these attacks badly affect bilateral relations.

“The Government of Pakistan strongly condemns the US drone strike that took place near Miranshah, North Waziristan today. These unilateral strikes are a violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” the Foreign Ministry said.

A Foreign Ministry statement said Pakistan has repeatedly emphasized the importance of bringing an immediate end to drone strikes.

Pakistan insists drone strikes are counter-productive, entail loss of innocent civilian lives and have human rights and humanitarian implications. However, the U.S. refuses to halt the secret drone campaign. 

The Monday’s strike was third in the same region in less than ten days.

Six people were killed in a US drone strike on September 22. Earlier at least four people were killed when a US drone targeted a house with missiles in North Waziristan on August 31.

The Monday’s strike was 22 in Pakistan this year, killing at least 121.

The latest strike was carried out just days after Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif condemned the American drone strikes in his speech at the UN General Assembly and urged the U.S. to stop these attacks.

The U.S. argues the CIA-controlled drone campaign is important to eliminate militants blamed for cross-border attacks into Afghanistan.
