Murder of a young Palestinian in Jerusalem raises tension

The discovery of the charred body of a Palestinian teenager brought the Wednesday morning the tension in Jerusalem, where there had been racist and anti-Arab unrest during the two previous nights. Israeli police are investigating whether he was murdered by right-wing Jews.

A military radio station reported on the disappearance of a 16 years in the east of the city, an area of Palestinian majority. According to these reports, the teen was forced into a vehicle. The body, which has not been officially linked to the possible kidnapping, appeared in a forest west of the city. It is feared that the murder was an act of revenge for the three Israeli teenagers, kidnapped and killed in June. Jerusalem Mayor, Nir Barkat Israel, condemned the incident and promised that the culprits will be brought to justice.

The family of one of the young Jews murdered Naftali Fraenkel, called on Wednesday, “ominous and horrifying ” the possibility that the Palestinian teenager named Mohamed Abu Khdeir, was killed in retaliation for the triple murder of the West Bank. Abu Khdeir was the same age that Fraenkel, whose uncle Yisahi said that ” murder is murder, has no forgiveness or justification.”

According to police spokesman, the Palestinian disappeared in Palestinian Shoafat area, northeast of the city. They speak of ” two lines of investigation” into the crime. Police did not rule out the case of a “common crime ” motivated by rivalries between families or gangs. On the street and in various Israeli media extends, however, suspected that it was a hate crime perpetrated by right-wing Jews. In anticipation of unrest, police have strengthened their presence in Beit Hanina, where family of the murdered boy lives. Meanwhile, in the West Bank continued raids against militant Palestinian Islamist organization Hamas IsraelĀ  accused of having organized and carried out the triple murder of Jewish students. There were riots in Hebron and 42 new arrests, in addition to the 420 already arrested since Israeli students disappeared on June 12.
