Ashraf Ghani declared new president of Afghanistan

Afghanistan Election Commission has declared on Monday July 7, 2014 that Ashraf Ghani has won the majority vote in the second round of presidential elections and has been elected as the country’s new president.
Ashraf Ghani, according to the Afghan Election Commission, secured 56.44 percent of the ballots while his rival, Abdullah Abdullah, won 43.56 percent of the vote. None of the presidential candidates could get more that 50 percent of the votes during the initial phase of the elections and thus had to go through the second round of votes.
Afghan Election Commission said in the statement that although few fraud case emerged in the elections, but all steps of the election process have been completed in transparent manner. There are total 13.5 million registered voters in Afghanistan and out of those about 8 million used their votes during the second round of Afghan presidential election on June 14, 2014.
The final results of the elections will be declared on July 22, 2104.
