SP Security ordered firing on protesters in Model Town

Joint Investigation Team formed to investigate the tragedy of Model Town, Lahore, has revealed that Superintendent of Police (SP) Salman Ali Khan ordered to open fire on the protesters and as result elite commandos fired 200 rounds. On June 17, 2014 police fired on protesters outside the residence of Dr. Tahirul Qadri killing 14 persons and injuring 80.

It is reported in the local newspaper, inspector in charge of the Elite commandos, Rauf Ahmad,  has said in a statement to the Joint Investigation Team that SP Security Salman Ali Khan ordered the firing on the protesters on June 17 outside Minhaujul Quran. Rauf Ahmad said that he was of the opinion that firing can lead to loss of lives but it was ignored. He further added that in the absence of sharp shooters among the elite commandos, there was possibility of protesters getting hit by bullets in the upper parts of bodies that could be fatal.

Elite commandos incharge added that Station House Officer (SHO) Sabzahzar Sheikh Amir Saleem was also present at the scene who complained to the SP Security that elite commandos were not firing at the protesters after which the SP Salman Ali Khan ordered elite commandos to shoot the protesters in the legs. 

Police opened fire on the protesters outside the residence of Dr. Tahirul Qadri who were resisting the removal of security barriers in front of the Model Town residence. 14 people including women were died as the result of firing and 100 injured. 

In-charge elite commandos, SHO Sabzahzar and eight other elite commandos are under the police custody in relation to the Model Town tragedy for further questioning.

Dr. Tahirul Qadri has refused to cooperate with the police investigation and had stated that he will not become of the investigation by police who killed the innocent people.
