Underage Marriage: Minor Boy Freed

On Wednesday, police freed a minor boy who was to be married to an adult woman against the law, at a ceremony held at Chak 717-GB, Kamalia, on Tuesday.

Raiding the ceremony, Shorkot Cantonment police detained the 10-year-old would-be groom, Ali Sher, together with Nikah Khwan Hafiz Muhammad Tahir.

Along with the guests, the parents of the groom and 22-year-old would-be bride fled the scene.

The police released the minor boy on Wednesday but booked Hafiz Tahir.

Muhammad Boota, investigation officer stated through telephone that because of his age, the minor boy was freed, while a case had been lodged against Nikah Khwan and the girl’s father under the Punjab Child Marriage Act.
