A huge explosion occurred at Quetta’s Civil Hospital on Monday morning due to which 53 people are feared dead while 56 others are badly injured.
The attack was strategically timed as Balochistan Bar Association President Bilal Kasi’s body was being taken to the emergency department of the hospital. Kasi was gunned down in a targeted killing attack at Mano Jan Road earlier today. Due to the incident, a number of lawyers and journalist had gathered at the Civil Hospital.
Eye witnesses reported that after the deadly blast, unknown men opened fire at people, further creating panic in the area. All of this occurred near the emergency department of the hospital.
According to reports, the dead mostly include lawyers and journalists. An Aaj News cameraman was killed in the attack while a Dawn News cameraman was severely injured.
Former President of Bar Association Baz Muhammad Kakar got severely injured, he later succumbed to his injuries and passed away.
After the blast, police cordoned off the area and people were asked to stay away from the site of the blast. Mobile phone jammers have been installed in the surrounding areas of the Civil Hospital and the security forces are searching for the culprits. Till now, it is still not clear whether it was a suicide attack or if the bomb had been planted in the hospital.
So far none of the groups have claimed responsibility of the attack, but the Balochistan Chief Minister Sanaullah Zehri believes that Indian spy agency, RAW is behind this attack.
Emergency has been declared at hospitals in Quetta and the wounded are being treated on high priority.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has condemned the attack and ordered the provincial government to arrest the perpetrators.
