The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested the officer who is responsible for the issuing of fake Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) to Nat Geo’s famous ‘Afghan Girl’, Sharbat Gula.
The officer, who was an Assistant Director at National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) was identified as Amaad. He was arrested during a raid in Peshawar and was presented to the judicial magistrate this week. According to the details provided, Amaad had been suspended last year prior to an inquiry into the same case and then he was absconded.
After the court hearing, the ex-AD was sent on physical remand for three days, during which he will be investigated. Initially, the FIA had lodged FIRs against two other Nadra officials who had been charged with issuing fake CNIC to Sharbat Gula along with Amaad. However, the other two suspects were granted bail before arrest by the court.
The famous Gula was arrested by the FIA on October 26 from her home in Peshawar for allegedly carrying a fake CNIC. At the time of her arrest, a Pakistani CNIC and an Afghan ID card were recovered from her.
Gula was sent on judicial remand by a local court in Peshawar after she denied to confess her guilt in the alleged forgery case of CNIC. She was also ordered by the court to leave the country.
However, later the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government decided to stop her deportation on humanitarian grounds but Gula refused to stay and left for Afghanistan where she was greeted by President Ashraf Ghani.
