At a time when everyone has cameras in their phone and easy access to internet, it is not wise for companies to put their customers at the back-burner since such an approach can backfire.

After a terrible fiasco with a customer which cost United Airline its reputation and share price, Delta Airlines also seems to be making the same blunder. In a recent episode, a California couple was booted off an overbooked Delta Airlines flight for refusing to give up their child’s seat.

According to the details of the incident provided, the Schear family of Huntington Beach was on their way back to Los Angeles from Hawaii. The family booked their seats on Delta Airlines flight on April 23 and after they had taken their seats, a flight attendant came up to them and asked the father, Brian Schear, to give up a seat occupied by their two-year-old son.

Schear initially refused on the grounds that the seat was paid for but finally he is seen conceding to the request in a video made by a fellow passenger. Despite that, the family, which included the parents and their two toddlers, is kicked-off the flight.

“This is a federal offense and then you and your wife will be in jail and your kids will be in foster care,” a crew member is overheard telling Schear when he first refuses to disembark.

According to Schear, there were people waiting to be seated on the seats they vacated so the flight had definitely been overbooked.

When the video was posted by the family on Youtube, it created an uproar amongst the people and Delta airlines revealed a statement on Thursday apologizing for the ‘unfortunate experience’. The statement also said that they had reached out to the family and were offering to refund their travel and offer compensation.

“Delta’s goal is to always work with customers in an attempt to find solutions to their travel issues,” the statement adds. “That did not happen in this case and we apologize.”

The prompt apology may actually work in averting a major marketing blunder for the company.
