Arrest warrant issued for model Ayyan Ali after she fails to appear in court

Hearings in the money laundering case pertaining to Ayyan Ali are still continuing but the model fails to appear before the judge in any of those hearings. On Tuesday, a customs court issued arrest warrant for the model after she failed to appear before the judge for the 12th consecutive time.

According to the details provided, during a hearing at the court in Rawalpindi, the Ayyan Ali’s lawyer said that his client could not appear in the court as her mother is sick and she is tending to her. On this, the judge presiding the case, Sheeraz Kayani became furious, saying that earlier it was said that she herself is sick and now her mother is reportedly sick.

The judge added that Ayyan did not appear in court for the past 12 times, and ordered the concerned authorities to arrest her and produce her before the court on June 21.

Ayyan was arrested from the Islamabad airport on March 14, 2015, on charges of money laundering after the customs officials recovered $506,000 from her luggage. She was about to board a plane to Dubai when she got arrested.

In November 2015, Ayyan was indicted for attempting to smuggle out more than $500,000 to which she pleaded ‘not guilty’.

Ayyan spent four months in Rawalpindi’s Adiala jail and eventually she was granted bail in July 2015. She flew to Dubai after her name was cleared from the Exit Control List on February 23.
