Qatari prince unable to testify in person; still owns both letters

The Panamagate case hearing is underway and the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) will be submitting its second fortnightly report to the Supreme Court tomorrow. It has been learnt that during this hearing, the JIT will inform the SC that the Qatari prince who submitted the letters, showing the Sharif family’s money trail, will not be able to testify in person.

Qatari royal Hamad Bin Jassim Bin Jaber Al-Thani has cited his ‘hectic schedule’ as the reason for his inability to come to Pakistan to testify. Instead, he preferred to verify in writing the content of the two letters produced as evidence by the Sharif family during the case hearing in the top court.

The news comes as a slight set-back to the ruling party who were banking on the Qatari prince as his letter is the only strong evidence showcasing their money trail for the London flats. However, the verification in writing will also suffice to provide the authenticity of those letters.

It was also confirmed through reliable sources that the JIT had received a reply from the prince last week in response to a letter delivered to him through diplomatic channels. In his reply, Hamad Bin Jassim confirmed each and every word of the letter which he had written.

Meanwhile Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan tweeted on Monday; “From the media reports it appears Qatari Prince [is] unwilling to appear before JIT. If this is correct, Sharifs have lost their only ‘money trail’.”

He added: “Qatari Prince was the only straw Sharifs had to clutch on to. Without Qatari prince Sharifs have no money trail on how money went abroad and how flats were purchased. Only ‘trail’ is corruption money”.
