Chinese national dies in a target killing incident in Karachi

Chinese nationals working in Pakistan have been targeting on a number of occasions, but sadly, this time around one of them got killed in Karachi.

According to the details provided, the deceased Chinese was working at a non-CPEC related private shipping firm in Karachi and he was shot dead in broad daylight in Karachi’s Clifton area on Monday afternoon.

The incident took place near the Zamzama Park in the Neelum Colony area of the city at around 2:50 pm.

“Two Chinese nationals had left their office at around 1:30pm for lunch at a restaurant in Block-2 Clifton,” read a press statement issued by the office of Zone South deputy inspector general (DIG). “After having lunch they moved towards Neelum Colony opposite Zamzama Park for purchasing vegetables and fruits.”

The statement went on to say that the two Chinese were sitting in their white colored Honda Civic car when an unidentified gunman opened fire from the front side of the car which left 46-year-old Chen Zhu gravely injured. His companion, Ye Fan, remained unhurt during the attack while a pedestrian was also wounded.

According to details, Chen was sitting on the driver’s seat, while Ye was sitting on the passenger seat during the attack. Ye was later taken into police’s protective custody following the incident.

Both the injured were shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where Chen succumbed to his injuries.
