Alamgir longs for his fans’ prayers in the days of his illness

Pakistan’s legendary pop singer, Alamgir has supplicated for the support of his fans in the days of his illness. The musician yearned for prayers from his followers while speaking to the media on Saturday.

The ‘Elvis of the East’ was diagnosed with complete renal failure in 2007 but his medical insurance would not cover the kidney transplant; the procedure and its cost.

Alamgir asked for financial and moral support from his fans all around the world as he waits for a suitable donor. The singer enlisted himself for a matching kidney donor in 2007 but is yet to receive a positive response from the HMOs (Health Management Organizations) in the US. Since the diagnosis, he has been on continuous dialysis; however, that can only hinder the ailment but not eradicate it.

Although, the issue has been taken up by his fans but there is still a substantial amount of money required for the transplant should a matching organ becomes available. The fans have initiated clubs and societies in the wake of his dire need of the whole operation. There are several communities on Facebook for the awareness to the issue.

When asked whether the government has pledged in their support, Alamgir relied on a few words: “Yes — I would prefer to leave it at that.”

The pop icon was born and raised in Eastern Pakistan (now Bangladesh) and after his higher education pursued singing as a profession. After the saddening separation of Bangladesh, he preferred to further his career in Pakistan and settled in PECHS, Karachi.

During his 40 glittering years of excellence in the field of music, Alamgir has inspired many. He ruled the hearts and souls of fans on the stage and on television screens. He pioneered the concept of music videos in Pakistan.

His first song, Albeila Rahi earned him such a fame that continues to date even when he is out the scene. However, the singer thrives to end the barren patch as soon as he comes to his full health.

Even the baleful illness has failed to fend Alamgir from continuing his passion for singing. He still finds tranquillity in music and practices his vocals every day. The 40-year music veteran plans on releasing more songs after the craved recovery.
