Pakistan Railways’ pensioners protest agaisnt non-payment

Pakistan Railways’ retired employees protested against the non-payment of the pensions on Tuesday here in Lahore outside the Bank. According to the sources the employees were waiting outside the back for more than five hours but the bank officials did not
update them about the payment of their pensions.

Ex-employees of railways have not been given their pension for more than two months. They have requested the government find a solution of their problem. More than 1500 retired PR employees have not been given pensions for over a six months period.

Besides Lahore, retired employees protested in Peshawar, Rawalpindi, Multan, Quetta, Sukkur, and other major cities of Pakistan.

The current employees of the Railways had been on protest a few days ago on the non-payment of the salaries. The Unions of the Railway led the protest of the employees, but the retired employees do not have union that can pass their demands to higher authorities.

Railway employees were given their salaries after the Ministry of Finance granted one billion to the department for this purpose. However there are still many employees, who are waiting for their salaries.

The Pensioners said they do not have any other source of income and there only hope to live is the pension. They demanded government to issue a special grant for the pensioners.

Some of them were even unable to speak clearly becuase of the weakness, but were still standind under the scorching heat of sun with a hope to recieve their pensions.

Governemnt on the other hand has still not taken care of the ex-employees, who have given their blood for the departement.
