Imran Khan: A new hope for democracy

A month ago, there was so much disappointment in Pakistan regarding the failure of the current political leadership to deliver the goods. Educated class of the country and especially the youth had started to feel that democracy is a curse
for the country and the current electorate does not possess the ability to choose their appropriate representatives.

The youth was craving for a change and more dangerously, a change in the whole system. The people are fed up of the current leadership of the country, in particular, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN).

However, the new ray of hope has come in shape of Imran Khan and Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI). The grand procession at the Minar e Pakistan, Lahore on the 30th of October, 2011 was one of the massive ones in the history of the
country. Such show of power by Imran Khan has surely raised the spirit of the youth of the country, which has started to believe once again that a change can be brought through democracy.

One of the positive things for PTI has occurred on the 8th of November, when the grandson of Pakistan’s ideological father, Dr. Allama Mohammad Iqbal, Waleed Iqbal has joined PTI and has decided to take an active part in the politics
of Pakistan, under the shadow of Imran.

His mother and one of the most renowned legal experts of the country, Justice Nasira Iqbal has also welcomed her son’s decision and just like any other Pakistani, she also has great hopes from Imran Khan.

She said, “Youth is inclined towards PTI due to its strong message for change. Imran is a hero of the nation, who had brought good name by winning the cricket world cup.”

Nasira further added that the Pakistan Muslim League, which fought the freedom struggle for the nation is now parted in a number of different blocs, which means that it cannot play a bigger role for the betterment of the country.

“PML which launched the Pakistan Movement is now divided into many parts. These parts are working with different names and now youth is fed up all of them. PTI is talking about change and the youth wants to be a stakeholder in this wave
of change,” Nasira added.

The Pakistanis are hoping that Imran Khan would not let them down and he will change the whole political scenario of the country. It is not about individuals, in fact, it is about the system and the masses in Pakistan expect Imran to change the system in
this country.
