Having pondered over your Vision and focused on the various long and short term goals, it is important to understand how to go about achieving them. Because ultimately it is the quality of the actions that you leave behind that
would prove the worth of your contribution to your Institution.

Just like being an effective ‘Leader’ and a ‘Learner’, saw the need to develop and enhance certain qualities, even being a ‘true achiever’ needs honing certain key qualities.

These key qualities form the backbone of any achievement.

Aspiration

Ability to

–          set Vision/ goals

–          know what one wants to achieve

Responsibility

Ability to

–          convert goals into results

–          take accountability for ones actions

Initiative

Ability to

–          explore alternatives and possibilities

–          put extra effort to achieve something

Involvement

Ability to

–          understand related details of the task on hand

–          maintain certain quality standards of results

Discipline

Ability to

–          organize and plan the activities

–          Know when to do what

An easy way to understand how these qualities interact with each other to make an achievement happen is to understand the implications when one or more is not present. To help relate easily, the implications have been stated as
situations that could happen in your life or in your Institution, if you as a person/leader having an imbalance of the above FIVE qualities.

Your ASPIRATION is HIGH – but RESPONSIBILITY is LOW…

Implications

–          You would be seen as a dreamer, a person building castles in the air.

–          You are not action oriented and unable to show results

–          You would miss opportunities, letting dreams remain just dreams.

–          Being a good idea bank, you have great ideas and people make use of them for their own growth.

Your ASPIRATION & RESPONSIBILITY are HIGH – but INITIATIVE is LOW…

Implications:

You do not put in extra effort to create new opportunities and do not explore various possibilities to achieve your amibitions.

–          This results is not getting the best in what you are working on as the path chosen by you may not be always the finest.

–          You end up putting more effort to achieve the set goal and do not optimize resources.

–          You are seen as a hard worker, not a smart worker.

Your ASPIRATION, RESPONSIBILITY & INITIATIVE is HIGH – but INVOLVEMENT is LOW…

Implications:

–          You are unable to go into the minute details or gain deeper clarity of the task in hand.

–          Generally the quality of everything you do tends to suffer, as the detailing is often missed out.

–          You are unable to connect and build on the multiple alternatives found by you.

Your ASPIRATION, RESPONSIBILITY, INITIATIVE and INVOLVEMENT is HIGH– but DISCIPLINE is LOW…

Implications:

–          You are not organized and systematic with your activities.

–          Things are often misplaced and lot of time is spent on searching.

–          Many opportunities are lost as the right thing is not done at the right time.

–          Your ideas are ineffective as they come at the wrong time.

Your RESPONSIBILITY, INITIATIVE, INVOLVEMENT and DISCIPLINE is HIGH– but ASPIRATION itself is LOW…

Implications:

–          You are an excellent executor as you have the other qualities, but not able to be a contributor.

–          You would be good at implementing others dreams and ideas, but unable to use your skills to develop your own idea or vision.

–          You are not utilizing your full potential.

When ALL THE FIVE QUALITIES (Aspiration, Responsibility, Initiative, Involvement and Discipline) are BALANCED…

Implications

–          You have clear goals and vision for the development of your Institution.

–          You take the responsibility to convert your dreams into actions and put every effort needed.

–          You look at multiple alternatives / opportunities to achieve something and choose the best option with awareness.

–          You are aware of the details of the task in hand and judiciously allocate resources, manage time etc.

–          Your results meet the required quality standards.

–          You are planned and systematic, and able to monitor your progress.

–          You are able to find valuable opportunities for your Institution at the right time and able to capitalise on them.

–          You are a true contributor and Leader.

Working on becoming a true achiever

Having understood the areas where you need to focus, one of the best ways to

develop them is to get into action immediately. Below is a worksheet which is a systematic way to approach every activity/goal/milestone set by you and go about achieving it.

Practice this method for every activity / goal to start with, and make it a habit. Eventually the same would become a part of your thinking and get integrated in everyday working.
