Liaquat Baloch alleges intelligence agencies of breaking law and abducting citizens

Karachi: (Wednesday, January 11, 2012) Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) secretary general Liaquat Baloch yesterday alleged the intelligence agencies of breaking the law time and again and abducting citizens.

Baloch said that his party believed all institutions must operate within the parameters defined by the constitution. However, he lamented that agencies thought themselves above the law and “accountable to none”.

Threatening of leading a protest against human rights and constitutional violations by the secret agencies, Baloch said, “We have decided to stage a protest at the police head office on MA Jinnah Road on January 13 against the
abduction of our citizens”.

Expressing his resolve to stand tall against the attempts to hinder their protest, he said, “We would trample all obstacles that may hamper our protest, including the Red Zone, which is cordoned off for such activities.”

Continuing with his remarks, the JI leader demanded of the government to explain constitutional restrictions of these agencies to the nation.

He said, “These agencies must put a stop to their wicked plans and release those who have been detained unlawfully.” Baloch said JI was a peace loving party that has always avoided unnecessary confrontation. But “Enough is enough”
he added.

Reminding government of the peoples’ wrath in Egypt and Libya where basic humanitarian rights of the people were usurped by the authoritarian regimes, and which were toppled within no time, Baloch said, “But in the end, what happened
became a lesson for the whole world.”

Inviting citizens in Karachi to join him and his party in the sit-in, Baloch said it was high time for the citizens had put their religious and political affiliations aside and get organized for an issue concerning all Pakistanis.
