Altaf speaks for Balochistan’s rights
In quite a blatant voice, Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain warned that the time for resolving Balochistan’s agonies was bolting out, calling for an emergency roundtable meeting to address the province’s grievances.
While addressing tens of thousands of women in Karachi, Altaf Hussain categorically stated, “Either look into it (Balochistan issue) immediately or (God forbid) be ready to lose it”. He also stated that the country political leadership had lost the trust of the people of Sindh.
In his view, the only way to resolve the issues they will have to some bold decisions. His demand came in the background of a resolution about Balochistan to give them their due rights to regain their self-assurance.
A week last, a resolution moved in the US Congress calling for right of self-determination for the people of the province.
The MQM chief was of the opinion that the rulers by virtue of their wrong policies and their high-handedness had sought to drown out the voice of Baloch people, estranging them and compelling them to the point of withdrawal.
He observed, “You are dumping corpses there and still want these people to remain loyal to Pakistan. I have asked the government several times to stop such brutalities”. He referred the issue of missing persons, saying that 28 men of his party were still missing.
Altaf Hussain appealed the higher authorities that the missing persons’ issue should be resolved at the earliest. At the same time, he made a demand for the release of Dr Aafia Siddiqui, yearning in US prison for long, reminding that it was his party that had taken out a big rally for her liberation.
The rally was organized by the women of Karachi so major part of his speech was devoted to their issues in the country.
He spoke about reforms in tribal and feudal system, which did not permit women to play their role in the progress and development of the country. The rally was named as ‘empower women to strengthen Pakistan.
