Mansoor Ijaz, the architect of the Memogate scandal, Friday claimed President Asif Ali Zardari gave approval to Abbottabad operation that led to the killing of Al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden by the U.S. Navy Seals on May 02, 2011.

“President Zardari gave approval to the U.S. Special Forces action,” Mansoor Ijaz said as he spoke to the media but refused to be drawn on the subject with the Judicial Commission hearing the memogate scam via video conferencing.

Headed by Justice Faiz Isa, the commission resumed the hearing of the case at Islamabad High Court (IHC).

Ijaz stated President Asif Ali Zardari knew about Abbottabad operation and he had informed Army Chief General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani over phone that the operation was being carried out with his consent.

He stated F-16 planes were ready to counter operation but President Zardari advised General Kayani against retaliation.

During the cross-examination, Ijaz again said Pakistan faced the threat of a military coup following the U.S. Special Forces raid.

“I had credible information from a well-informed source in the written form that Pakistan was heading towards another coup following the Abbottabad operation. Also, I had received a classified draft about ISI chief Ahmed Shuja Pasha’s visit and the Abbottabad operation, the US businessman said while refusing to reveal the source.

In the meantime, the Judicial Commission has summoned Pakistan’s former ambassador to the U.S. Hussain Haqqani to record his statement after concluding Mansoor Ijaz’s cross-examination. However, the date will be finalized later.

The commission also directed the government and Husain Haqqani to submit the copy of all phone bills, which the former ambassador had used during May to November 2011.

The commission also sought PIN code of Haqqani’s mobile phone, which he had used during May to November 2011.

Besides, the commission sought the bills of mobile phone service providing company with instruction that the bills be sent to the commission’s secretary via email while hard copy be sent to the commission directly.
